Chinatown Shrine (2017)

Through this work, I wanted to question the dual nature of Gold; from immortal elixir for alchemists to becoming a symbol of vain ostentation in today’s society.
But also how those religious artefacts reproduced in mass, don’t aim to become part of a religious ritual but become a souvenir for Westerns of a different (or no) religion.
The re-sacralisation of those objects through this new ritual opposes the peaceful and sacred way you would encounter those religious statues to the buzzing Chinatown as well as Chinese hectic cities where they become tokens.
